Arsenal Vertu Trophy reaction | Brian Barry-Murphy

Bluebirds boss Brian Barry-Murphy spoke to the press after a young City side beat Arsenal U21s 3-1 to progress to the knockout phase of the Vertu Trophy.

“I'm really pleased for the players that played.” Brian began. "It was a very big occasion for them as you can imagine, so many players making their debut together, and to perform in the manner they did, win the game and put us through to the next round makes it an incredibly satisfying evening for us all.

U21 | Preview & Pre-Match | Queens Park Rangers

Ahead of the contest, U21 head coach Darren Purse said: “The squad is in a good place. We’re missing three or four players, so that brings the average age of the squad down a little bit, but the squad is otherwise in a decent place.

“Even though we lost to Bournemouth last Tuesday, the performance was a decent one. We created chances, it’s just about being more ruthless in the final third, and that’s what I’ll be looking for from Tuesday’s game against QPR.

Leyton Orient reaction | Brian Barry-Murphy

Brian Barry-Murphy spoke to press following City’s entertaining 4-3 victory over Leyton Orient at Cardiff City Stadium.

“I think if that is a sign of things to come at the Cardiff City Stadium. It's not going to be a dull ride," he began.

“I felt strongly in the first half that we misinterpreted what was needed from the game. We played a lot of short passes close to our goal and put ourselves under a lot of pressure. It was pretty high risk stuff from us when it didn’t need to be.

U18 | PDL Cup Report | Cardiff City 5-1 Swindon Town

City’s U18s second PDL Cup group stage game ended in a 5-1 victory against Swindon Town.

The young Bluebirds started fast, taking the lead with only six minutes played. Hayden Allmark sat Swindon’s keeper down, before slotting the ball into the empty net. Riley Hilaire-Clarke then made it two for City only three minutes later, as he drove into the box and rounded the keeper.

Jack Sykes was then brought down inside the box by the Swindon keeper. The inform striker made no mistake from the spot. The visitors did pull one back just before the break through Kian Larkins.

Bute Energy Welsh Cup Report | City Women win fourth consecutive Bute Energy Welsh Cup

City Women secured the Bute Energy Welsh Cup for the fourth consecutive year after beating Wrexham AFC Women 3-1 at Rodney Parade.

A long distance strike from Lily Billingham, a Shannon Evans header and second half goal from Fiona Barry clinched the cup for the Bluebirds.

It was a dream start for City as Billingham made it 1-0 with only five minutes played as her long distance effort proved too strong for Liz Craven in the Wrexham net, as the ball nestled in the top corner. Wrexham’s first chance fell to Abbie Iddenden when she volleyed goalwards, but her effort was comfortably caught by Ceryn Chamberlain in the City goal.

City Women were crowned champions of the Adran Premier on Sunday afternoon as they defeated The New Saints 3-1.

Three second half goals from Eliza Collie, Mackenzie Olden and Fiona Barry secured the title for the Bluebirds.

The first chance of the game fell to City defender Shannon Evans, who struck just wide from distance. With just over ten minutes played, the Bluebirds were awarded a penalty when Olden was brought down inside the box. Ffion Price’s penalty was kept out by Mackenzie Haydn-Jones in The New Saints' goal.

Adran Premier Report | Cardiff City 1-2 Wrexham

City Women fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Wrexham on Sunday afternoon.

A Lily Billingham strike was cancelled out by Ava Suckley, before Abbie Iddenden grabbed a second, which gave the visitors all three points.

Wrexham had the first chance of the game as Carra Jones was played in-behind. However, Ceryn Chamberlain produced a great save to deny the visitors an early lead. City created their first chance with just over ten minutes played. Billingham cut in from the right and opened space for herself to drive into, before firing an effort goalwards, forcing Liz Craven in the Wrexham goal to save.

Review: Have West Ham just had their best transfer window ever?

With the introduction of new head coach Julen Lopetegui, the Hammers were in for a busy summer. After the departure of former manager David Moyes, the team was always going to change with new players coming in who suit Lopetegui's style of play.

The West Ham board had to make sure they backed Lopetegui because the main reason he left Wolverhampton Wanderers was because the club informed the Spaniard that he did not have the resources and funding to back his ambitious.
